Restaurant and Cafe Websites: What Actually Matters

Two cafe owners standing proudly in their cafe

When someone's deciding where to eat, they want answers fast. What's on the menu? How much? Is it open now? Where exactly is it? Can I book a table? A restaurant website that answers those in seconds brings in diners. One that hides the menu in a slow PDF sends them to the place next door.

A menu people can actually read

Put your menu on a proper web page, not only as a PDF or photo. Text menus load faster, are easy to read on a phone and can be read by Google, which helps you appear for searches like "best paneer tikka near me" or "vegan cafe in C-Scheme". Include prices and mark vegetarian, vegan and Jain options clearly. Keep it updated.

Photos that make people hungry

Great food photos, the interior, the outdoor seating, the vibe on a busy evening. These often decide whether someone visits. Compress them so pages load quickly.

The essentials, front and centre

Address, map, opening hours (including festival hours), phone number, WhatsApp and parking information. On mobile, the phone number should be tap-to-call and the address should open in Maps.

Reservations and ordering

A simple booking option, whether through a reservation tool, WhatsApp or phone. If you offer delivery, link to where people can order. For events, private dining and parties, a separate enquiry page captures bigger bookings.

Your Google Business Profile matters most

For restaurants and cafes, the Google profile is often seen by more people than the website itself. Keep hours accurate, add fresh photos regularly, add your menu, choose the right category and reply to reviews. Read our guides on local SEO and getting more Google reviews.

Tell your story

Who's behind the place, where the recipes come from, what makes you different. A short About section gives people a reason to choose you over a similar option.

Keep it simple

You don't need a complex website. A fast, good-looking site with a menu, photos, location, hours and booking covers most of what diners need.

Mistakes we see often

  • PDF-only menus that are slow and hard to read on phones
  • Out-of-date hours or prices
  • No phone number or map on the homepage
  • Autoplaying music or video
  • Different hours on the website and Google profile
