Most hotels and resorts rely heavily on online travel agencies for bookings, and pay significant commission on each one. Your own website is how you win more direct bookings. But many hotel websites make it surprisingly hard: slow galleries, vague room descriptions and a booking button that goes nowhere useful.
Here's what a good hotel or resort website needs.
Photos that sell the experience
Travellers book with their eyes. Professional photos of rooms, bathrooms, views, the pool, dining, common areas and the surrounding area are essential. Include people enjoying the space, not just empty rooms. Compress them properly so galleries load quickly.
A page for each room type
Each room or suite deserves its own page: photos, size, bed type, maximum occupancy, view, amenities and price guidance. Separate pages help guests compare, and they can rank for searches like "family suite with pool view in Jaipur".
A booking engine that's easy to use
A clear "Book Now" button on every page, with a booking engine that shows availability and prices and works smoothly on mobile. If guests can't book easily, they'll go back to an OTA.
Give reasons to book direct
Best price guarantee, free breakfast, early check-in, a complimentary upgrade when available. Make it visible. Guests who find you on an OTA often check your website before booking.
Location and things to do
A map, directions from the airport and railway station, distances to key attractions, and a guide to the area. Content like "Things to do near our resort" or "A weekend itinerary in Jaipur" helps both guests and SEO.
Reviews and trust
Show reviews from Google and travel platforms, awards and certifications. Reply to reviews publicly, especially on your Google Business Profile.
Local SEO is essential
A complete Google Business Profile with photos, amenities, correct category and regular updates is one of the most important things a hotel can do. See our local SEO guide and tips on getting more Google reviews.
Events and weddings
If you host weddings, conferences or parties, give each its own page with capacity, spaces, packages and an enquiry form. These are high-value enquiries.
Speed and mobile
Many travellers research on their phones. Heavy galleries and videos need to be optimised. Read mobile-first design.
Easy contact
Phone, WhatsApp and email visible on every page. Many guests, especially for weddings and group bookings, want to talk before booking.
